Comparative analysis of mass media discourse in English
and Uzbek

This article examines the influence of media linguistics on the
linguistic style of the media, with an emphasis on the English and
Uzbek languages. The main attention is paid to the features of the
language used in the media and the requirements of media
linguistics in the context of these languages. The abstract touches
on key aspects of the use of language in media, presenting
examples and explaining how media linguistic approaches
influence the formation of content. The article also briefly
examines current initiatives, achievements and challenges in the
field of media linguistics, emphasizing its significance for modern
media communications.

vositalarida qo'llaniladigan tilning xususiyatlari va ushbu tillar
kontekstida media lingvistika talablariga qaratilgan. Abstrakt
axborot vositalarida tildan foydalanishning asosiy jihatlariga
to‘xtalib, misollar keltirish va media lingvistik yondashuvlar

В данной статье исследуется влияние медиалингвистики
на языковой стиль средств массовой информации, с
акцентом на английский и узбекский языки. Основное
внимание уделено особенностям языка, применяемого в
медиа, и требованиям медиалингвистики в контексте этих
языков. Аннотация затрагивает ключевые аспекты
использования языка в медиа, представляя примеры и
объясняя, как медиалингвистические подходы влияют на
формирование контента. Также в статье кратко
рассматриваются текущие инициативы, достижения и
вызовы в области медиалингвистики, подчеркивая ее
значимость для современных медиакоммуникаций.
INTRODUCTION
The term "age of technology" is often used to describe the twenty-first century. This
term is believed to have been coined because technologies have been produced more than
at any other time in history. However, this is not entirely accurate, as technology has been
developed and used to benefit people throughout history. The rationale behind the
designation of the 21st century is entirely unrelated. Historically, technological
instruments were confined to specific domains, such as construction and mechanics.
However, in the contemporary era, technology has permeated every aspect of life. In the
domain of mass media, the most intimate and vulnerable aspects of humanity have
proliferated. Currently, the general population evinces a profound interest in information.
Consequently, the study of mass media is garnering increasing attention both domestically
and globally. One of the most notable and significant areas of this topic is media linguistics.
Therefore, it is necessary to examine the notion of "media linguistics" in more detail before
proceeding to the main issue. In actuality, the mass media originally comprised printed
news sources like newspapers and magazines. Today, informational media like the
telephone, television, radio, and

social networks and social sites

are
accessible to all and especially do not require users to pay for them. It is evident that the
principal instrument utilized by the mainstream media to disseminate these ideas is
language. This is evident in the style and choice of words employed when disseminating
news. This is the reason why media linguistics is defined as the study of language used in
mass media.
LITERATURE ANALYSIS AND METHODOLOGY
The term "media linguistics" was coined by drawing comparisons with other related
lexical units used to designate other emerging academic fields that arise in the nexus of
sciences, such as sociolinguistics, ethnolinguistics, media psychology, media economics,
and so forth. The term "media linguistics" first appeared in the Russian scientific discourse
in the year 2000. The term "media linguistics" was first employed in T. G.

Dobrosklonskaya's doctoral dissertation, entitled "Theory and Methods of Media
Linguistics" (1). The English term "media linguistics" was first used by British scholars in
their publications a short time later. The subject of this nascent field of study is the
examination of language in the context of mass communication. The term "media
linguistics" itself is a combination of "mass media" and "linguistics." In other words, media
linguistics is a comprehensive study of a specific area of language use: the language of mass
media. The legitimacy of emphasizing media linguistics as a new direction of linguistics is
contingent upon the significant influence that mass media exerts upon society and the
individual. The majority of contemporary linguistic practices are employed in the context
of mass communication. The continuous improvement of information and communication
technologies (ICT) has led to a steady increase in the total volume of texts distributed in
different national languages in the global information space. Concurrently, the subject of
media linguistics is not the sole discipline that has undergone a process of differentiation,
whereby it has been separated into a distinct field of linguistic inquiry. A parallel can be
drawn with the emergence of another novel field of linguistic study, namely political
linguistics. This field of enquiry concerns the role of language in the context of political
relations.
RESULTS
The concept of "media language" and the emerging field of media linguistics were
both born out of the study of the various facets of speech use in the rapidly expanding
realm of mass communication. The study of the term "the word in mass media," or how
language functions in the context of mass communication, is the focus of the science of
media linguistics. All of the earlier independent studies of different facets of media
discourse have been merged into a single systematic framework within the field of media
linguistics. This comprehensive approach to the issue is reflected in the internal
organization of media linguistics. The methods employed in the creation and distribution
of media texts exert an influence on their linguistic and format features, functional-genre
classification, phonological, syntagmatic, and stylistic features, interpretation features,
cultural features, ideological modality, and pragmatic linguistic value. All of these
components and levels of mass media texts are subjected to thorough analysis in light of
extralinguistic and linguistic factors.
The concept of the media text, which is regarded as a dialectical unity of linguistic
and media elements expressing a multi-layered, multi-level phenomenon, forms the
primary theoretical foundation of media linguistics. The spoken text level, the video
sequence or graphic image level, and the audio accompaniment level represent the three
primary levels of media discourse. It is acknowledged that diversity exists.
DISCUSSION
The author is a notable figure in the field of media linguistics, distinguished by his
unique personality, perspectives, and social status. In this context, the notion of
"authorship" is preferred, with due consideration given to the expertise of researchers in
the field of media linguistics. A comparative analysis reveals that English modality
expressions are distinguished by a unique degree of accuracy associated with the semantic
potential of the modal verb system, regardless of the stylistic elements present in the text.
In English, modal verbs are a class of verbs that describe an activity rather than the action
itself. Consequently, the collection of predicates that include the types can need, necessary,
and that is where the Russian counterparts of English modal verbs are typically found.

Additionally, there is a semantic similarity between English modal predicates and Uzbek
adverbs and adverbial phrases, such as "also," "perhaps," "perhaps," "must," and "must."
For instance: It is necessary to invest the surplus in some manner. While Manchester City
may be a viable option, insufficient football clubs accommodate all potential investments.
"This surplus must be invested somewhere, and although Manchester City is an attractive
option, there are not enough football clubs for everyone."
It should be noted that using these Uzbek equivalents of English modal verbs is
consistent with the technique of not naming the subject. It is, however, possible to translate
English modal structures into Uzbek equivalent modal verbs and indicative mood verbs.
Consequently, despite the typological differences between the Uzbek and English
languages, the common conceptual meaning has been preserved.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, it should be noted that media linguistics is a relatively recent scientific
discipline that studies the use of language in the context of the media. Media linguistics
was created at the intersection of two disciplines, resulting in the emergence of a unique
field with its characteristics. On the one hand, it draws upon the foundation of linguistic
research, while on the other hand, it is integrated into the broader framework of media
studies. The primary category of media linguistics is the media text, which is a complex and
multifaceted phenomenon encompassing several distinctive characteristics.
