PROSTHODONTIC TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH
OSTEOPOROSIS

Osteoporosis occurs in about 1/3 of the western female population over the
age of 65. It is estimated that more than 200 million people worldwide suffer from
this disease (Holahan C.M., Koka S., 2008).
Habits such as smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, intestinal disorders that lead to
inadequate absorption of Ca, P, vitamin D deficiencies, and kidney problems can be
modified to reduce the risk of osteoporosis. While unmodifiable risk factors include
age, gender, family history, menopausal status and ethnicity (Safarov M.T., 2021).
Materials and methods. Examined 30 patients at the Department of Hospital
Prosthetic Dentistry of the Tashkent State Dental Institute. According to the patients,
the questionnaires on the detection of somatic diseases and systemic lesions were
completed. A clinical examination and X-ray examination were carried out.
Research results. Among the surveyed 65% were women aged 50-65 years.
According to the data, the incidence of osteoporosis in the primary manifestation
was 49%. An insufficient volume of bone tissue and local osteoporosis of the lower
and upper jaws were found.
Studies have shown a relationship, seen on panoramic radiographs, between
osteoporosis and ridge resorption of the residual ridge. Mandibular indexes can be
used as an early detection tool. The prosthetist, by identifying features, will have the
advantage of allowing the patient to be referred for bone density screening for early
diagnosis and subsequent treatment of the disease.
