Bladder calculus resulting from the migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device

A Zakirov, O Kasimov
Perforation of the uterus by intrauterine device (IUD) is not uncommon, intravesical migration and the formation of secondary stones is a very rare complication. The IUD migrated from the uterus to the bladder and led to the formation of stones. The mean age was 42.6 years (33-59). Lower urinary tract symptoms were the main complaint in almost all cases. The interval between the insertion of an IUD and the onset of symptoms ranges from 2 to 12 years. Cystoscopy showed partial intravesical position of the IUD in 59 cases. All patients underwent endoscopic stone lithotripsy with removal of the intrauterine contraceptive. The procedures went well, without complications.
