Abstract

Modern odontogenic infections remain one of the most pressing issues in maxillofacial surgery and dentistry, due to the high prevalence of complicated forms, increasing antibiotic resistance, and delayed patient presentation. This review systematizes current literature data reflecting the standards of diagnosis, surgical management, and antimicrobial therapy of odontogenic infections. Particular attention is given to the principles of early detection of inflammatory processes, algorithms for drainage of abscesses and phlegmons, rational selection of antibacterial agents, and assessment of risk factors for severe disease progression. The role of a multidisciplinary approach, advanced imaging methods, and additional technologies—including local antiseptics, photodynamic therapy, and drains with active aspiration—is analyzed. The summarized data indicate the necessity of transitioning to standardized, evidence-based, and algorithm-driven approaches for the management of odontogenic infections, ensuring a reduction in complications and improved clinical outcomes.
