Thesis Statement
This thesis investigates the linguocultural dimensions of place-name expressions in English
and Uzbek, analyzing how these expressions reflect cultural values, historical narratives, and
social norms, thereby shaping national identity.
Abstract:
This research explores the significance of place-name expressions in both
English and Uzbek, focusing on their cultural and historical implications. By employing
qualitative methods, including interviews and literature reviews, the study sheds light on the
shared and divergent features of toponymic phrases, emphasizing their role in articulating
cultural identity and collective memory.

Introduction
Place-name expressions are linguistic units derived from geographical names that
encapsulate the cultural and historical essence of a community. This thesis aims to analyze these
expressions in both English and Uzbek, exploring how they articulate cultural identity and reflect
the sociolinguistic landscape of their respective cultures. Understanding these phrases is
essential for grasping the intricate relationship between language and culture.
Literature Review
The literature on toponymy and phraseology highlights the significance of place-name
expressions in various linguistic and cultural contexts. Key studies have explored:

: Research indicates that place names often reflect the
values and identities of communities (Bakiyev, 2010; Iskandarov, 2015). These expressions
serve as markers of cultural heritage and collective memory.

perspective is crucial for understanding the evolution of toponymic phrases.

of 40 interviews were conducted across various regions in Uzbekistan and English-speaking
communities.

additional context for the use of these expressions.

identify key themes and concepts related to place-name expressions in both languages.

relationship between language and culture. By analyzing these expressions, we gain valuable
insights into how they shape national identity and cultural heritage in both English and Uzbek
contexts. Future research should continue to explore the implications of toponymy in the context
of modern linguistic changes and cultural globalization.
