and the son of Poseidon, the Greek
god of the sea. Readers are introduced to Percy as an
ordinary boy struggling with dyslexia and ADHD.
However, his life takes an extraordinary turn when he
learns that he is being targeted by monsters from
Greek mythology. Percy is brought to Camp Half-Blood,
a safe haven for demigods, where he meets other half-
bloods and begins to understand his true identity. As
Percy navigates the treacherous halls of Camp Half-
Blood, a training ground for demigods like himself, he
embarks on a quest to prevent a war among the gods
and uncover the truth about his own identity. Riordan's
masterful storytelling draws readers into Percy's
world, blending humor, adventure, and relatable
coming-of-age themes that resonate with readers of all
ages. "The Birth of a Hero" refers to the initial
installment of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the
Olympians series, titled "The Lightning Thief." This
book serves as the introduction to the world of Percy
Jackson, a twelve-year-old boy who discovers that he is
a demigod, or half-human, half-god, and the son of
Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. The book follows
Percy as he embarks on a quest to prevent a war
among the gods and recover Zeus' stolen lightning
bolt, which he has been wrongfully accused of stealing.
Throughout his journey, Percy encounters a variety of
mythical creatures and characters from Greek
mythology, all brought to life in Riordan's engaging
and humorous writing style.
"The Lightning Thief" sets the stage for the
subsequent books in the series, as Percy and his
friends, including Annabeth Chase and Grover
Underwood, continue to navigate the challenges of
being demigods and face new quests and adventures.
The remaining four books in the Percy Jackson and the
Olympians series expand on Percy's adventures and
further explore Greek mythology. According to
“Mythology has long been used as a tool to enlighten
human beings by teaching moral values and making
connections between present and past”. In "The Sea
of Monsters," Percy and his friends embark on a quest
to find the Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood.
"The Titan's Curse" sees the group facing off against
powerful titans and searching for missing demigods. In
"The Battle of the Labyrinth," they navigate a
treacherous maze and confront the forces of Kronos,
the Titan lord. Finally, in "The Last Olympian," the
series reaches its climax as Percy and his allies engage
in a monumental battle against the forces of darkness.
Throughout the series, Rick Riordan skillfully weaves
together elements of Greek mythology, modern-day
settings, and relatable coming-of-age themes. The
books not only entertain readers with their action-
packed plots but also provide opportunities for readers
to learn about Greek mythology and its enduring
relevance. As Kurniawan (2012) stated the beauty of
literary work is found in fantasy stories about human
life and adventure. "The Birth of a Hero" and the
