Abstract:

In the era of globalization and technological advancement, proficiency in foreign

languages, particularly English, is crucial for engineers. This article explores the methodology

for developing the linguistic competence of future engineers in the English language based on

an integrative approach. The approach emphasizes combining linguistic skills with technical

knowledge, enhancing both language and professional competence, which is essential for

effective communication in international scientific and technical environments.

Keywords:

Integrative approach, linguistic competence, future engineers, language teaching

methodology, English language.

The modern professional activities of engineers require not only profound knowledge in their

specialized fields but also a high level of proficiency in foreign languages, particularly English.

English has become the dominant language in global scientific and technical communication,

making it an essential skill for engineers. Consequently, higher education institutions face the

significant task of developing the linguistic competence of students in engineering fields. One

of the most effective approaches for achieving this goal is the integrative approach, which

combines language training with professional education.

1. Theoretical Foundations of the Integrative Approach in Foreign Language Teaching:
The integrative approach in foreign language teaching involves the synthesis of various aspects

of the learning process, including language acquisition and the integration of knowledge from

other fields. This approach focuses on creating real-world professional contexts that allow

students to use English not only as a language but also as a tool to solve professional problems.

The integrative approach is rooted in the idea that language learning should go beyond grammar

and vocabulary to encompass the practical application of language skills in a professional

context.

2. Characteristics of Developing Linguistic Competence in Future Engineers:
Linguistic competence encompasses the ability to understand and produce text in a foreign

language, as well as to use it effectively for professional tasks. For engineers, one of the key

elements of linguistic competence is mastering specialized terminology and the ability to work

with technical texts in English. This includes skills in reading and comprehending scientific

papers, writing reports, making presentations, and creating technical documentation.

3. Methodology for Developing Linguistic Competence Based on the Integrative Approach:
The methodology for developing the linguistic competence of future engineers integrates

language education with professional disciplines. The following methods can be employed to

achieve this goal: 1. Project-based Learning: Students engage in real-world projects that require

the use of English for communication, technical documentation, and presentations. This method

fosters both language and professional skills, as students must apply their English proficiency in

practical engineering contexts. 2. Use of Technical Texts: Reading and analyzing scientific

articles, manuals, technical reports, and other specialized literature in English helps students

expand their technical knowledge while enhancing their language skills. By working with

authentic texts, students are exposed to the vocabulary and structures commonly used in the

engineering profession. 3. Role-playing and Simulation of Professional Situations: Role-playing

exercises, such as negotiations, problem-solving scenarios, and client interactions, allow

students to use English in contexts they are likely to encounter in their future careers. This

method not only develops linguistic skills but also prepares students for real-life professional

challenges.12:10
4. Integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT): The use of online

courses, platforms for communication with native English speakers, virtual laboratories, and

simulation tools enables students to practice English in a more interactive and immersive

environment. ICT tools provide opportunities for students to engage in authentic language use

in professional settings. Advantages of the Integrative Approach in Language Teaching. The

primary advantage of the integrative approach is its focus on developing students as

professionals who can effectively use a foreign language in their careers. This approach

enhances their employability, broadens career opportunities, and fosters international

collaboration. By integrating language skills with professional knowledge, students are better

prepared to succeed in a globalized world, where English is the dominant language for

communication in science, technology, and business.
The methodology for developing the linguistic competence of future engineers based on the

integrative approach is an effective strategy that facilitates the development of both language

and professional skills. It is crucial for educational institutions to implement this approach into

their curriculum, thereby creating an environment that equips students with the necessary skills

to meet the challenges of their future careers. By fostering an integrative competence, engineers

will not only be specialists in their fields but also proficient users of English, opening new

opportunities for professional growth and international collaboration.
