PECULIARITIES OF ANTITHESIS IN I.YUSUPOV’S POEMS

Abstract
: In this article dealt with comparison of antithesis in English and Karakalpak
languages and consists of examples from English literature and I.Yusupov’s poems. The
last discussed the similarities and dissimilarities of antithesis in English and Karakalpak
languages. In literature, writers employ antithesis not only in sentences but also in
characters and events and gave few examples of antithesis in literature. The favorite poet
IbrayimYusupov talented, educated poet, playwright and interpreter, faced with life
difficulties.

Antithesis can be defined as “a figure of speech involving a seeming contradiction
of ideas, words, clauses, or sentences within a balanced grammatical structure.
Parallelism of expression serves to emphasize opposition of ideas”. It is used in writing
or speech either as a proposition that contrasts with or reverses some previously
mentioned proposition, or when two opposites are introduced together for contrasting
effect. An antithesis must always contain double meanings due to the reproduction of two
ideas within one statement. The ideas may not be structurally opposite, but they serve to
be functionally opposite when comparing two ideas for emphasis.
An antithesis is used when the writer employs two sentences of contrasting
meanings in close proximity to one another. Whether they are words or phrases of the
same sentence, an antithesis is used to create a stark contrast using two divergent
elements that come together to create one uniform whole. An antithesis plays on the
complementary property of opposites to create one vivid picture. The purpose of using an
antithesis in literature is to create a balance between opposite qualities and lend a greater
insight into the subject.
Antithesis is a literary device in which two opposing ideas are expressed within
close proximity. From Greek language means
“setting opposite”.
Aristotle states that
antithesis in rhetoric is similar to syllogism due to the presentation of two conclusions
within a statement. In the first chapter we dealt with function, in which given detailed
information, significance of antithesis in literature which shows its role in English and
Karakalpak literature and the difference between antithesis and other stylistic devices, we
compared antithesis with irony, juxtaposition and paradox.
The Karakalpak literature was developed in XVIII century, in XVIII-XIX century
appeared the representatives as they are known even in our day. Karakalpaks are freedom
loving nation, so that they fighter for their national liberty. As we know, the Kazak khan
Abulxayr stringed Karakalpaks. As a result they left in torture and move from Sirdarya to
Tashkent, through Qizilkum to Khorezm (the South of aral Sea shore).

As the president of Uzbekistan Sh.Mirziyoyev described “

swaying effectively and I am impressed from honor and respect”.
The favorite poet of Karakalpaks, the hero of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan
IbrayimYusupov is talented, educated poet, playwright and interpreter, faced with life
difficulties. He is one of the famous writer, was born in 1929 in Chimbay reign. His
interest to literature began from his school years, published poems in newspaper. In 1949
I.Yusupov graduated the faculty of Karakalpak language and literature in Pedagogical
Institute. Till 1961 he worked as a teacher in Institute. In 1961-1965 he worked in
“Amudarya” magazine as an editor. From 1969 he controlled the sphere of Karakalpak
writers. From 1980 worked in “Erkin Qaraqalpaqstan” as an editor.
Well-known poet
plays a great role in developing Karakalpak literature. The writer used stylistic devices
with proficiency and was able to attract the reader [3].
One of the stylistic devices which made his poems impressive and effective is
antithesis. I.Yusupov used this device to make the meaning more clear and
understandable. Here we will give some examples of antithesis from the writer’s work.
“Kóriner bolɪń”
1. Ashɪq ayaz násiyeti sol bolar:
Biydáwletlik jigit ómirin qor qɪlar.
Isbilermen bolsań, baxtɪń zor bolar,
Qulday islep, begdey kiyiner bolɪń ( I. Yusupov)
Translation in English:
Advice of a freezing cold:
Poorness disgraces the life of a man.
Business makes your happiness powerful,
Work as a slave, dress as a lord.

2. Bir jaǵɪń suw, bir jaǵɪń shól bolmasa
Jánnet qurɪp berseńde men barmayman.
Gúl hám juwsań iyisi ańqɪp turmasa,
Ol jerde men qaraqalpaq bolmayman

Translation in English:
If there is neither water nor desert in sides
I will not go even you build me a paradise.
If it does not disperse the smell of flower,
I will not be Karakalak there.

Translation in English:
If you do a kindness to somediv,
No matter if you forget it.
But if somediv does kindness to you,
Always keep in mind it.

Forget – keep in mind.

Peylimiz dɪm tarayɪptɪ.
Endi mine ózgelerden,
Izlep júrippiz bar ayɪptɪ

Translation in English:
We flew into a passion
The character was deteriorated
And now we are blaming
Or the mistake the others.

5. Kúshlilerdiń ɪǵɪna alɪp,
Ázzilerin qorlar edi.
Jaqsɪsɪn ózine alɪp,
Jaqɪnlarɪn qollar edi.
The writer Ibrayim Yusupov showed that the Karakalpak literature is rich
language. The stylistics is highly developed that writers use its devices to make their
poems effective.
The last discussed the similarities and dissimilarities of antithesis in English and
Karakalpak languages. In literature, writers employ antithesis not only in sentences but
also in characters and events and gave few examples of antithesis in literature. The
favorite poet IbrayimYusupov talented, educated poet, playwright and interpreter, faced
with life difficulties. The writer Ibrayim Yusupov showed that the Karakalpak literature
is rich language.
Thus, all these characteristics show that there are lots of important peculiarities
between Karakalpak and English antithesis.
