SOME WAYS TO MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO LEARN ENGLISH

Annotation.
The proposed methods provide high motivation for learning by
involving students in the creative process, allowing them to make discoveries
themselves. Students must be prepared to speak with native speakers in their native
language and understand each other correctly.
Key words:
Methods, willingness, lifestyle, understanding, learners, speak,
clear goal
INTRODUCTION
Factors, that influence learning include a student
’
s willingness to learn,
language barriers, teacher enthusiasm, learning disabilities, access to resources
and school structure. Most students come from different backgrounds have
developed different methods of interpreting information. Learning is influenced
by the student
’
s ability to comprehend and retain information.
Some students learn more easily through visual presentations, while other
students learn more from hands-on experience.
Students who learn from a teacher
’
s curriculum tend to be goal-oriented,
eager and easily motivated. These characteristics improve the likelihood of learning
from assigned lesson plans. When students are not willing to learn, they are capable
of regurgitating information; however, they rarely retain it. A willingness to learn
helps students overcome difficulties and exceed educational goals.
METHODS AND MATERIAL
There are also external factors that influence learning such as learning
disabilities, access to resources and language barriers. A learning disability affects
how a student learns and impedes his ability to learn material visually or audibly.
A disability also influences retention, memory and attention capacity.
A language barrier can restrict the communication between the teacher and
the student. Language barriers affect how accurately students receive
information. The teacher
’
s experience and enthusiasm influence the ways in
which students learn. Teachers who display competence and confidence help
students respond easily to educational material.
Have a clear goal with a deadline.
Being inspired is great to start something new; however, to keep doing it
and to achieve your goal, you need to set yourself a clear period to get it. When
you know what your goal is, think of all the steps you need to take to get there.
Define the deadline by which you can realistically achieve it. Then, mark your
weekly and daily activities in your calendar and regularly check whether you are
learning fast enough to meet your deadline.

You must love to learn English. You do not see it as work, but as play. To
achieve this the key is to do what excites you, but do it in English. Do you have a
passion for fishing, or fashion? The latest stock prices or the hottest music? What
about your family or children? What gets you going? What is the one thing that if
taken away from your life would have the biggest influence on you? Now imagine
reading, listening and talking passionately about that subject, but in English.
Thanks to innovative technologies, it is possible to engage students in
interactive activities in English lessons, put each student in the center of the
educational process, make him an active participant of teaching, organize his
creative interaction with other students, give him the opportunity to realize
himself as a person, to give the educational process a real practical orientation. A
conscious and tangible practical result, a product, one way or another designed to
solve a significant problem, taken from real life and which can be shared with
others. The lesson should not be monotonous, methods and techniques have to
contribute to enhancing initiative and creative expression.[6]
Successful language learners always look on the positive side of things. They
see a language as something that can be mastered, one-step at a time. If along the
way we make mistakes, or lose faith, it does not matter as long as we continually
look forward. See the goal in your mind and head towards it. However, sadly many
people do not do this. Instead of focusing on the good things, they focus on the
bad. They continually think of mistakes they have made; they worry that they may
embarrasses themselves, they believe that English cannot be learnt, they believe
they will not be understood. Moreover, true enough if this is what they think of
everyday then this is what happens. However, you are different. You think
positive thoughts every day and you head in the positive direction. When you
make mistakes, you learn from them and move on. When you see a new challenge,
new people to speak to, new words you do not know, you look forward to tackling
them, you know that people will respect you for trying, even if you do make
mistakes. You know that English is something you can do. You know that even if
people do not understand what you say the first time, if you try often enough, they
will indeed understand. New things to learn are a challenge to be enjoyed. You
look forward to situations you cannot handle, so that you may learn how to make
them your own.
RESULTS
Make English part of your lifestyle.
To be advanced in English, you do not need to spend all your time with
grammar books and exercises. Instead, you should make it a part of your daily
routine, watching TV shows and films in English, following bloggers and media in
English on social media, trying to communicate in English with others and with
yourself, in a blog or diary.
Try to spend at least one hour a day on activities in English and you will not
even notice how easy it suddenly becomes to use the language.

To track your progress and guide you in your studies, use a textbook or two,
or check up with professional tutors and you can decide how often you want to
catch up and what days and times suit you better. Check it out and give it a go: you
can always start by booking just a single one-to-one lesson.
Fall in love with an English-speaker.
You will not hear this language learning advice often, however, being in love
with someone who speaks English is a great motivation to work on your spoken
and written language to better understand each other and spend more time
together.
Try to fall in love with an influencer or a show. Then, you can follow them
actively and feel more motivated about learning English this way rather than with
textbooks.
Do not worry about understanding every single word
When you read in English or watch a film, there will be words you may not
know. However, you should not worry about running to the dictionary and
translating every single word as long as you understand the whole phrases. You
probably will be able to guess their meaning from context.
If you see the word often, check it out later and ensure that you have
understood it correctly. With the dictionary aside, you will feel less stressed about
understanding particular words and more focused on learning to comprehend
language in general. Enjoy the process!
Pronunciation matters.
Many students feel lazy about learning phonetics and checking
pronunciation rules. However, it becomes very important to pronounce words
correctly and understand what native speakers say when you advance in your
language studies.
It is much easier to learn correct pronunciation and phonetic rules at the
beginning than to struggle with re-memorizing the words you have learned
incorrectly after a year or two of studies.
Try talking to yourself or recording
your speech and listening to it. It will
help you to notice the mistakes in your pronunciation and work on your accent.
In addition, you can find a native-speaking teacher who will always be able to
correct you and provide valuable feedback and advice.
Follow English accounts in social media.
I propose you start following some mass media or themed accounts in
English. For instance, if you are interested in fashion, you can follow British and
American versions of popular fashion magazines as well as some fashion
designers, stylists and bloggers. This way, you will combine your interest in
fashion with daily English practice. Soon, it will feel natural.
Furthermore, if you follow accounts related to your professional activities,
you will soon learn all the professional vocabulary and expressions you need to
talk about work.

Do not wait for the next level.
It is a common mistake of language students not to do some activities before
reaching a certain level. For example, many students believe that they cannot read
books, watch TV shows, or try to speak in English before they are at least at Upper-
Intermediate level. That is wrong.
Even when you are at an Elementary
level, you can start speaking. Of course,
you will not be able to discuss modern art or global politics; however, you can talk
about your family, friends and hobbies. In addition, you should do it in order to
develop your listening and speaking skills, work on your pronunciation, accent
and confidence. The later you start, the more challenges you will face.
The same is true for reading: at a pre-Intermediate level, you can easily read
and understand children
’
s books. Check out adapted books for language learners,
in case you hate children
’
s literature. At Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate
levels, you can go for best-sellers and popular novels with confidence: usually,
they have simple vocabulary and grammar structures so it is enjoyable to read
them at this level. Reading will boost your vocabulary significantly and help you
to memorize common expressions and idioms.
For writing, you can always start with diaries and journals, and then
progress into running your social media accounts in English.
Do not be upset if you do not see any progress straightaway
Firstly, there is no magical recipe, which will help you go from zero to
Advanced level in a few weeks. Secondly, remember your goals when measuring
your success. Track the progress with your ability to better understand shows or
books, see how much your scoring at international language tests, or ask your
tutor for the feedback.
As you need to get into the swimming pool to see whether you learned how
to swim, so you need to dive into the language environment to see whether you
are making progress in your English studies. Only being in an English-speaking
country, you can actually enjoy speaking in English, using the words and phrases
you have learned, checking up on your listening skills, and comparing your accent
with native speakers.
CONCLUSION
A great way to practice and boost English in a language environment is to
go for a language course abroad. At LinguaTrip.com, you can choose from
hundreds of schools all over the world and find the course that meets your
personal requirements.
