This article analyzes the stages of the historical formation of Uzbek documentation, its development in connection with socio-political processes, and the form and content of the modern documentation system. First of all, the foundations of the national documentation school are revealed on the example of inscriptions created since ancient Turkic times, medieval oriental divankhona traditions, and documents typical of the khanate period. The next stage covers the standardization and unification of documentation in the process of improving state administration, departmental work, and the regulatory and legal system since the second half of the 20th century. Also, during the years of Uzbekistan's independence, there have been widespread achievements in such areas as electronic document management, digital archives, and the development of regulatory and methodological documents in accordance with modern requirements.
