Introduction

The term ‘concept’ has been used a lot in linguistics in recent years, and it has

been the subject of a lot of scholarly research by a lot of scholars, and the study of
certain linguistics units as concepts [1]. The concept of "concept" is a concept that is
abstract in nature, meaning that it is a collection of meanings that do not exist as a
single entity, and do not take on physical form, but are created by our mental processes.
As long as the knowledge acquired through human activities is reflected in our minds,
this mental representation is a representation of our national and cultural activities [2].
Sh. Safarov, a linguist, has posed the question of whether it is possible to refer to the
concept of “tushuncha”, which is the result of logical action, and the concept of
“concept”, which is commonly used in cognitive linguistics, within the same
framework. It is evident that both of these phenomena are manifestations of a unified
state of thought. The foundation for both of them is the perception and representation
of the subject of reality [3]. Language is a sign of culture, and in every language there
are words and ideas that have a specific cultural meaning. One such idea is the concept
of “xazina” or “treasure”, which has a special place in people’s hearts in Uzbek and
English speaking countries.

“Xazina” in Uzbek culture
Historical significance:

In Uzbek culture, the concept of “Xazina” is deeply

intertwined with the historical legacy of the Silk Road. Uzbekistan, historically a
crossroads of trade, was associated with immense wealth and treasures exchanged
along this ancient route. The notion of “xazina” evokes images of historical artifacts,
intricate textiles, and ceramics, which have been treasured for generations. The concept
of "xazina" or “treasure” is frequently woven into tales of merchants, explorers, and
travelers who sought riches and precious goods along this ancient route. These stories
celebrate the allure of wealth and the adventures of those who pursued it.

Cultural values:

Uzbek hospitality is renowned worldwide. Here, “xazina”

extends to the welcoming spirit of the people. A host is often seen as a “xazina” for
their ability to provide warmth, delicious food, and shelter to guests. Guests themselves
are considered treasures, and their comfort and well-being are paramount. Uzbek
literature emphasizes cultural values such as hospitality, generosity, and community.
“Xazina” is not solely about material wealth but also encompasses the treasures of
friendship, kindness, and the bonds that unite people. These themes are often explored
in poetry and folklore.

Symbolism:

“Xazina” can be a symbol of hope, prosperity, and the rewards of

hard work. It is a recurring motif in Uzbek poetry, symbolizing the aspirations of
individuals and the nation as a whole. For example, poets may use the image of a
hidden treasure to represent untapped potential.

Folklore and legends:

Uzbek folklore is rich with stories of hidden treasures

guarded by supernatural beings. These tales often contain moral lessons and adventures
centered around the quest for “xazina”. One famous character associated with treasure
is Alpomysh, a hero who embarks on epic journeys in search of hidden riches.

“Treasure” in English culture
Material wealth:

In the English language and culture, “treasure” is frequently

associated with material wealth. It conjures images of pirates burying chests of gold

and jewels on remote islands. Stories like “Treasure Island” and legends of Captain
Kidd have ingrained this perception in popular culture.

Adventure and exploration:

English-speaking cultures romanticize the concept

of treasure as an element of adventure and exploration. Classic tales like “Indiana
Jones” and “The Goonies” exemplify the thrill of embarking on quests to uncover
hidden riches.

Metaphorical significance:

Beyond its material aspect, “Treasure” in English

can take on metaphorical meanings. It may refer to hidden talents, potential, or inner
qualities that are valuable but not immediately evident. Phrases like “a hidden treasure”
or “treasure within” are commonly used to convey this idea.

Charitable giving:

The English language also employs “treasure” to highlight

acts of charity and benevolence. People may speak of “sharing their treasures” or
“treasuring the opportunity to help others”, emphasizing the value placed on helping
those in need.

Conclusion

The concept of “xazina, treasure” transcends language; it is a testament to the

diverse ways in which cultures perceive and cherish what is valuable. In Uzbek culture,
“xazina” embodies a rich historical tapestry, steeped in the legacy of the Silk Road and
a commitment to hospitality. In English-speaking cultures, “treasure” holds a
multifaceted role, symbolizing material wealth, adventure, hidden potential, and
charitable generosity.

These typological characteristics highlight the deep-rooted cultural values and

historical influences that shape our understanding of “xazina, treasure” in Uzbek and
English languages. Language is a living entity, reflecting the evolving nature of
cultures, and the concept of “xazina, treasure” continues to evolve as it traverses
linguistic and cultural boundaries, enriching our global tapestry of meaning.

As we explore these linguistic nuances, we gain a deeper appreciation for the

richness of human culture and the intricate ways in which language encapsulates our
collective heritage.

THE IMPORTANCE OF INDEPENDENT STUDY FOR STUDENTS

Niyatova Maftuna Norbek qizi,

Jizzakh branch of National university of Uzbekistan

Abstract:

Independent study is a crucial aspect of a student's academic journey.

It allows students to take ownership of their learning, explore their interests, and
develop essential skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. In this article, we
will discuss the importance of independent study for students and why it should be a
priority in their academic careers.

Key words:

Developing critical thinking skills, independent study, logical

thinking, advantages, disadvantages of independent work, comprehension, academic
purposes, making decision.

Independent study helps students develop critical thinking skills, which are

essential for success in any field. Critical thinking involves analyzing information,
evaluating evidence, and making informed decisions. Through independent study,
students can practice critical thinking by identifying patterns, making connections, and
solving problems. These skills are not only important for academic success but also for
career success. Independent study can help students build confidence and self-esteem.
When students take ownership of their learning, they develop a sense of pride and
accomplishment. This can lead to increased self-esteem and a greater sense of self-
worth. As students become more confident, they are more likely to take on challenges
and pursue their goals with determination and perseverance.

Encouraging Creativity and Innovation. Independent study encourages

creativity and innovation. When students are given the freedom to explore their
interests, they are more likely to think outside the box and come up with unique ideas.
This can lead to new discoveries and breakthroughs in various fields. Independent
study also encourages students to take risks and try new things, which can help them
develop a growth mindset.
