Аннотация

Совершенствование знаний английского языка у студентов медицинских вузов на английском языке является одним из основных приоритетов современной образовательной политики. Этот процесс создает потребность в медицинских кадрах, владеющих иностранными языками. Комплексная подготовка конкурентоспособных специалистов для медицинской сферы, соответствующих требованиям международных стандартов, ставит перед преподавателями английского языка новые требования и задачи. Это основные факторы, определяющие эффективность использования новых методов и новых стандартов.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR OF

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract:

The improvement of the English language knowledge of the students of medical

institutions of higher education in English is one of the main priorities of modern educational policy.
This process this creates a need for medical personnel who have mastered foreign languages. A
comprehensive training of competitive specialists for the medical sphere, corresponding to the
requirements of international standards, puts new requirements and tasks before the teachers of
English language. These are the main factors that determine the effectiveness of using new methods
and new standards.

The adoption of the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On education" (September 24, 2020)

has determined new level of tasks in state educational policy, modern standards and requirements,
educational plans and programs. Fundamental changes in the educational process, issues related to
the introduction of experimental and innovative educational activities in the field of medical
education also were regulated. And this marks the essence of the requirements for specialists in the
field of English language teaching, the level of development of modern pedagogical technologies and
innovative improvements. The issue of professional development of qualified doctors in developed
foreign countries, adaptation of medical personnel to the level of international standards requires
further improvement of their foreign language proficiency. The establishment of special scholarships
for students to study in leading foreign educational institutions also requires an excellent mastering
of the English language. Therefore, proceeding from the peculiarities of teaching English for medical
students, it should be noted that there is a need to master the following skills:

1.

To be able to understand, analyze, logically express their thoughts in English language,

as well as to have the competences of

reading

and

writing

for the preparation of reports, various

presentations and publishing articles in English on specialty.

2.

Participate in various international conferences and events, negotiations, to have a

thorough understanding of foreign language

speaking

and

listening

in order to understand English

speech and be able to express own opinion.

The modern practice of learning English to ESP students implies the formation and

development of knowledge of language and speech norms (phonetic, grammatical, lexical, spelling
and technical), as well as all types of speech activities (listening, speaking, reading and writing). It is
necessary to recognize the fact that only a small part of the medical workers are ready for their English
knowledge development, growth, success in their activities and careers. It can be said that the
development of the need for preparation of a motivational character is influenced by various object
and subject factors and conditions. Describing the structure of personal ability, the following factors
are important in the development of English language proficiency and professional competence of
future doctors:

1.

To understand the features of English language knowledge and to interpret them from

the point of view of medical education.

2.

Complete understanding of the subject of "English for medicine " on the basis of the

objectives, content and principles of higher education in this field.

At the same time, one of the most important conditions in this regard is the active learner. If

there is no interest and motivation in the learner himself, there is no need to teach him foreign

languages, because no matter how much the teacher tries, his job will remain futile and inefficient.
The desire of the learner in relation to the study of foreign languages and training, his diligence,
interest in the teaching process, the level of aspiration inspire the teacher to the lesson. Besides, the
student with a strong ability can work independently, and becomes the most active participant of the
educational process.

The teacher should also make their own efforts in the development of professional

competence, and inspire and encourage students, communicate with them with the explanation of the
importance and effectiveness of English language learning. First of all, it is important to create an
atmosphere of trust in the audience, and accordingly, pay attention to the following conditions:

a warm and friendly mood in the group;

mutual benefit in students' interests and views;

presence of interaction;

adapt the study methods to the students' interests;

creation of social equality and justice in the group.

The effective organization of the medical study process in cooperation with English language

learning became a necessity for each medical higher educational institution, solving significant tasks
in the field of preparation of highly professional and competent specialists.
