A review of Korean literature shows that the social status of the heroes of the highest and the most noble qualities were incompatible with their position in the society. They were deprived of many things in their lives, they were persecuted, oppressed, humiliated, and living in desperate poverty. However, in medieval stories, heroes are not discouraged or pessimistic about the wicked world. This is a significant feature of the works of that time. Particularly, since his childhood, Hong Gil Dong had to endure various forms of harassment and discrimination because of his low social status.
