WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO LEARN NEW VOCABULARY

Abstract. This article emphasizes importance of learning new vocabulary and how its
benefits. Besides, it has several strategies that helps to remember new words.
Key words: literacy, fluency, communicate, critical thinking, complex thoughts, public
speaking, mental image.
ПОЧЕМУ ВАЖНО ИЗУЧАТЬ НОВЫЙ СЛОВАРЬ
Аннотация. B этой статье подчеркивается важность изучения новой лексики и ее
преимущества. Кроме того, у него есть несколько стратегий, которые помогают
запоминать новые слова.
Ключевые слова: грамотность, беглость речи, общение, критическое мышление,
сложные мысли, публичные выступления, мысленный образ.
Introduction
Focusing on vocabulary is useful for developing knowledge and skills in multiple aspects
of language and literacy. This includes helping with decoding (phonemic awareness and phonics),
comprehension and, also, fluency.
Learning new vocabulary is important for several reasons:
Communication: A rich vocabulary allows you to more effectively communicate your
thoughts and ideas. The more words you know, the better you can express yourself and be
understood by others. Besides, knowing a wide range of vocabulary helps you better understand
what you read and hear. You can interpret unfamiliar words in context and grasp the meaning of
texts more easily.
Writing and Speaking: A diverse vocabulary enhances your writing and speaking skills. It
enables you to choose the right words to convey your message accurately and effectively.
Learning new words can improve your critical thinking skills by allowing you to analyze
and evaluate information more effectively. A broader vocabulary enables you to express complex
thoughts and ideas.
Career Opportunities: Having a strong vocabulary can enhance your chances for success
in your career. It demonstrates your communication skills, intelligence, and professionalism to
employers.
Personal Growth: Learning new words expands your knowledge and understanding of the
world around you. It allows you to engage with different ideas and perspectives, leading to
personal growth and development. Building a robust vocabulary can boost your confidence in
various situations, such as public speaking, job interviews, or social interactions.
There are several effective strategies for learning new vocabulary:

Try to use the new word in sentences or conversations to reinforce your memory of it.
➢
Connect the new word to something you already know or create a mental image to help
you remember it.

Create a mnemonic device, such as a rhyme or acronym, to help you remember the new
word
➢
Review the new word regularly to reinforce your memory of it.
➢
Write down new words and their definitions in a journal to help you remember them.
➢
Use the new word in conversations with others to practice using it in context.
Conclusion
In conclusion, developing your vocabulary is essential for effective communication,
cognitive development, and personal growth. It enriches your language skills and opens up
opportunities for success in various aspects of life.
