"Good faith" restoration: causes, examples and consequences

The author of this paper proposes his own views on the issues concerning the storage of manuscript documents. After long investigations he reveals certain “threats” to manuscripts, documents, especially notes some thoughts on the phrase “done with good purpose”. Here the author underlines such problems such as the reasons and results of this so-called “well-meaning repairs” restoration and also gives his suggestions on how to obey the rules of restoration of the documents in this article.

Three personal seals of the Kokan ruler Omar Khan (1810–1822).

Three personal seals (muhr) of Umar-Khan are described in this  article. There are imprints of all these three seals in the manuscripts from the COMTSIOS fund. All of three seals have the same legend in the centre – Amir al-Muslimin Sayyid Muhammad Umar ibn Narbuta-khan. One of the seals does not have a date. Dates are available in other  two seals – 1226/1811-12 and 1231/1815-16. These  dates can help determining the historical data connected with the activity of Umar-khan.

About the work "History of Muhyi Khoqandi"

"Tarih-i  Muhyi  Khukandi"  ("History  of  Muhyi  Khukandi")  is  a  historical  work written in Persian by Muhyi Khukandi (1836–1911). The only handwritten copy of the autograph of this work has been preserved at the Center of Eastern manuscripts at Tashkent State Institute of Oriental  studies  named  after  Abu  Rayhan  Bеruni  (under  the  inventory  №604).  This  article illustrates the history of the study of "Tarih-i Muhyi Khukandi", a description of the manuscript, structure of the work and its analysis. In addition, it also shows the significance of this work in the study of Central Asian history.

Sayyid  Ahmad  ibn  Jalal  ad-Din  Kwajagi  Kasani-Dahbedi  (868/1461–949/1542) was a brilliant scholar and great thinker of Mawarannahr. Although  the  attitude  of  Alisher  Navai  towards  the  representatives  of  Persian classical  poetry  of  the  X-XV  centuries  has  been  studied  relatively  well,  but  the  issue  of  the relationship  of  Uzbek  poet  with  the  works  of  Anvariy  Abivardi  (1105–1191),  Persian-speaking poet, recognized as "Prophet in qasida" by tradition hasn’t been researched yet. In this paper, with  an  argument  of  this  poet’s  works,  his  qasida  dedicated  to  Sufi-irfani  theme  "Tawakkul" (trusting in the will of God) is discussed in detail compared with Navoiy’s qasida which is devoted to the same subject as an imitation of Anvari’s qasida.

Autochthonous foundations of the history of the origin of the Uzbek people

In this article, based on the analysis of archaeological, anthropological and written (ancient Chinese) sources revealed the autochthonous basis of both ethnic (and proto-Old Iranian) origin layers of the Uzbek people in the example of the archaeological sites of the Neolithic Age in Central  Asia.  Proto-Turkic  root  served  with  Kalaminar  culture  proto-European  anthropological material and ancient Iranian - Jaytun Eastern Mediterranean culture with its anthropological type. Their synthesis, starting from the Bronze Age to the late antiquity, has led to the addition of "Central Asian interfluve race" - a characteristic type of modern Uzbeks and Tajiks plains.

The dynamics of practical knowledge and the importance of writing in ancient Khorezm

It is known that Termez from the Middle Ages was accepted  as one of the scientific centres of Mawarannahr and Khorasan.
